Aussie, when the 'whistler' turbo came up that got me thinking about the sound it makes and I realized something.  When my good kitty, Mr. Marlin, is really happy to be sitting on my lap and he rubs cheeks with me while purring, his purrs 'chirp'.  That purr-chirp sound at the frequency of a cat's purr sounds like a little tiny kitty 'whistler' turbo!  My kitty, Mr. Marlin, purrs in diesel - whistler turbo diesel!  Now if y'all aren't about to puke with jealousy then none of you are real men.

Hey, once the package hits the front seat, it's no longer any of my concern.

BTW- Delay in sending package.  2-hr delay at kids' school this morning due to cold weather, so took them out to breakfast.  Now I'm puking. I'm about to call this day done.

Don't cross up packing things and send him your upchuckedness.     :p

G'day everyone,...

Today I did a little cleaning of an Inverter I have from what I have been told used to be used to power communications equipment mounted in land rovers.

Dude!  I seen a date "1945" inside that box!

That is beyond all-cool.  I was an electronics major back in my confusion and learned about the existence of 'electro-mechanical' equipment like this.  But 'solid state' electronics had already replaced all the electro-mechanical stuff by the time I went to college so we never studied any of the old-school hardware.  I was never really aware they could use a DC electric motor to spool up an alternator to make portable AC power - but it makes perfect sense to do it like this before transistors were available.

I have to ask you - is it really worth putting that in the deuce?  I mean, its only 80 Watts 240VAC.  In my money that is the same as 160 Watts in 120 VAC and a modern electronic power inverter capable of producing that little power will fit in the pocket of my cargo shorts.

G'day everyone,...

Yep that sure is dated 1945!

It is a single shaft with an electric motor on one end and the generator on the other end of the same shaft!

It still works 100%.

I swapped  my now ex brother in law a water cooler for it.

He used to run his vehical diagnostic/tuner off it when he operated as a mobile mechanic and ran it off the vans battery.

Its been sitting around for years so I swapped him a water cooler I got from our old transport center when we moved.
it just happened to fall into the back of the 4x4,....

When he left my sister I managed to salvage the water cooler back!

I'll have to make another vid of it running for you, next weekend is the Australia day long weekend so I will do it then.

Also did you notice the bearings that require lubrication and how it needs to be done?

They built things to last back then that's why I love older equipment.

Oh and I hadn't really thought about mounting it in the Deuce but now you mention it,....

;)

What kind of grease do you think it requires?

And don't answer 'frequency grease' either!

I have seen 'grease caps' before but only on much older equipment like steam engines and early stationary internal combustion engines.

G'day everyone,...

If you read that big brass plate on the generator along the bottom it tells you what grease to use and has the pattern # as well.
You may have noticed most of those data plates all have pattern #'s on them.

Actually I was going to say 'slippery grease'
;)

I don't think my lazy b-I-l ever serviced it, it looks like I am going to have to re-fill those chambers with grease before I run it.
I'd say it would use a light weight grease rather than a high melting point grease,....

Actually I guess its wrong to call it an Inverter as its really a generator powered by a 24V electric motor.

In some circles of electronics and radio geeks "dielectric compound" is often called 'frequency grease'.

I have an ex-bro-n-law also.  Remember this;  It takes two to tango

At least you got your bait back (the cooler).
