Take a look at the 'success' of Philadelphia's 'sweetened beverage' tax.  Sales fell off a cliff between 30-50% (depending on neighborhood) within the first month.  Since then, all the manufacturers and distributors - national, regional and local - have laid off staff in their Philadelphia locations.  But the best part seems to be that the Teamsters union came out against it - before it was passed.  Even those typical leftist, thoroughly corrupt union scum knew what was headed their way.

And let's be straight up about it:  Those consequences are NOT unintended.  This is 'supermajority' Democrat territory.  Their goal:  Control - total control.   One way is to destroy business, especially independent businesses, making everyone dependent on government at all levels..... at which point, the coming-quickly cashless society moves in and everything - every single thing - a person does and wants to do is documented, tracked and..... nudge..... allowed or not, based on the following items:  That person's political ideology, 'social media' activity, along with organizational memberships, firearms ownership, etc.

And as a side note, here's links for two articles courtesy of IllinoisPolicy.org, where the headlines say it all:

Illinois has the worst personal income growth in the U.S. for the past decade.

--- and ---

Illinois has the worst jobs growth numbers in the U.S. for the past year.

It's for the..... nudge..... children.

Showdown looms over Illinois school funding plan.

Springfield, Illinois - The Associated Press - 1 August 2017  ---  Illinois' Republican governor and Democrat-controlled Legislature appeared headed for another showdown as negotiations broke down on a school funding overhaul, putting money for districts statewide at risk weeks before classes begin.

Democrats on Monday sent Gov. Bruce Rauner a new plan for doling out money to schools that they approved in May but had not yet sent to the governor because of concerns he would veto it.

Why would Gov. RINO veto th..... um..... Why would Gov. Rauner veto the continuation of the Corrupticrat Party reign over Illinois ?  All the 'proper people' in their no-show jobs were taken care of and th..... er..... The kids education is paramount, so the fundi..........

Quote

Senate President John Cullerton, a Chicago Democrat, warned that Rauner's changes would jeopardize money for schools statewide.  That's because if legislators can't muster enough votes to either approve or override the governor - scenarios that appear unlikely - the legislation dies, and there's no backup plan ready to go.

Rauner has accused Democrats of sitting on the bill to force a crisis. His spokeswoman, Laurel Patrick, said they were "holding our students hostage and threatening our public schools' ability to open on time".

Rauner, who had set a Monday deadline for Democrats to send him the bill, has said he will use his veto authority to strip additional funding for Chicago Public Schools.

Wait.  Hold it.  Just a second.

Is Gov. RINO actually develo..... um..... Is Gov. Rauner actually developing the beginning of growing even part of a spine ?

Quote

A bipartisan group of lawmakers met over the weekend and again on Monday to try to reach a compromise.

Democrats involved in the talks described the closed-door meetings Monday afternoon as "friendly" and positive, and said they asked Republicans to continue to try to reach a compromise.

"We would rather not go to a veto showdown", said Sen. Andy Manar, a Bunker Hill Democrat who sponsored the bill.  But minutes after Manar spoke to reporters, Republican state Sen. Jason Barickman ripped the talks as "a charade" and accused his Democrat counterparts of playing political games.

"Bi-partisan" ; Defined in Illinois and all 'blue' states as a majority/supermajority of typical everyday run-of-the-mill Democrats, all of them so far-left, they make wannabes like Bernie blush with envy, plus a few RINO's tossed in to keep up appearances.

And now, the crux of the matter:

Quote

Without new legislation, schools won't get paid.  The first payment to schools is due August 10th.

The proposed formula channels money to the neediest districts first after ensuring that no district receives less money than last school year.  It also includes pension help for Chicago.

"Neediest districts" ; Defined in Illinois and all 'blue' states as delineated by the unions and their bought-and-paid-for 'elected' hacks.

But remember:   It's for the..... nudge..... children.

No it's..... nudge..... not.

From Bill 'Longknife21' Brayshaw:

A clear demonstration of why local schools should be run by ---LOCAL School Boards!  As long as the students meet Testing Standards and that means Testing Standards for Teachers and .... THAT'S RACIST!

It is all about money, power, and unions.  Mostly run by & for the Community Organizers.  The city schools are mostly "garbage cans" to keep the little criminals off the streets in the day time so the taxpayers can go to work.  The 'teachers' are there to "hold down the lid" and try to keep the little honyots from killing each other.

The RINO actually up'n done it.  He's showin' some real bawlz, yo.

Quote

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has used his veto power to strip millions of dollars for Chicago Public Schools from a school funding overhaul in a move that could mean no districts get state money before classes begin.

Springfield, Illinois - The Associated Press - 1 August 2017  ---  The Republican on Tuesday removed help for Chicago Public Schools' pensions along with money the district formerly received in the form of a block grant, along with other changes.

The bill now returns to the Legislature, where three-fifths of lawmakers in both chambers must either approve or override Rauner's changes.  Both options will be difficult.  If neither chamber can muster the votes, the legislation dies.

I'll be danged.  He really went 'n put a bigly yuuuuuge bulls-eye on his own center-mass.

At least one person in Illinois understands it..... somewhat:

Quote

Franklin County Republican Chairman Jim Kerley, a former school board member, is flatly against any additional help for Chicago, which he says already disproportionately benefits because of House Speaker Michael Madigan, a Chicago Democrat who's the longest-serving House speaker nationwide.  "He focuses on Chicago and his power."

Mr. Kerley, sir, take out "Chicago and", then you're getting kinda sorta maybe close.

Madigan is a menace, but nowhere near the mortal-to-the-state uber-leftist typical everyday run-of-the-mill Democrats, all of them so far-left, they make wannabes like Bernie blush with envy, who are announced as candidates in 2018, two of them being J.B. Pritzker and Chris Kennedy.

Mr. Pritzker, yes, he of the Hyatt Hotel family, including dear sweet Penny who you should remember, bundled several hundred million for El Guapo and was part of the inner circle for quite a while before and during those 8 dark years.

And Mr. Kennedy..... yeah, it's THAT Kennedy family.

Spec is on the typical Democrats each running up $100 million campaigns - minimum - for a state governor position - salary is just under $200k.

Tain't 'bout money.  Nuh-uh.

The Chicago Public Schools system says it’s going ahead with plans to lay off nearly 1,000 employees.

Chicago, Illinois - CBS News - 7 August 2017  ---  About 350 of those laid off reportedly will be teachers, and about 360 will be classroom aides, along with 220 members of SEIU, who are special education aides and security guards.

The CPS layoffs come as Gov. Bruce Rauner and lawmakers are at odds over a new Illinois school funding plan.

“Our children in Chicago deserve better. Chicago Public Schools have been financially mismanaged for years and years, and it’s tragic for the families here, it’s tragic for the children here,” Rauner said Monday.

The Chicago Teachers Union blamed elected leaders.
*

“Nearly a thousand devoted educators have had their futures thrown into jeopardy due to the buck-passing at City Hall and in Springfield.  Our children, who desperately need those adults in their lives, are the ones who continue to suffer the most.”

 *  That's almost #FakeNews.

They only blame Republicans and other assorted public-employee-union-haters, who have almost zero official power in the entire state, not just Schmittecago, which itself is a 'supermajority' of typical everyday run-of-the-mill Democrats, all of them so far-left, they make wannabes like Bernie blush with envy.

Too bad, so sad. Not. These people are "worried" about their future, in the meantime, their theft of monies, their own subject incompetency, and illiteracy (yes numerous teachers in the urban ghetto school system are actually illiterate) have destroyed the future for millions of school children.

California just decided that kids don't have to pass math or English to graduate.

Tyler Durden for ZeroHedge - Links through The State of Illinois website and The Associated Press - 11 October 2017  ---  Back in July, the state of Illinois narrowly avoided a junk bond rating with a last minute budget deal that included a 32% in hike in income taxes.  Republican Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed the budget and called it a "disaster," but both houses of the state legislature voted to override his veto.  Meanwhile, S&P and Moody's were apparently both convinced that the budget deal was sufficient for the state to remain an investment grade credit and all lived happily ever after.

Until now.
