Cerberus Capital --- NOW the fur can fly.
« on: December 18, 2012, 09:06:34 AM »

Remember all the b.s. that went around about one Mr. George Soros buying firearm/ammo manufacturers ?....... and it was all b.s., meant to scare the he** out of people.

Fast forward to today and......... The company in question from all that silliness has now officially put Freedom Group up for sale.

Quote
(AP) -- Cerberus is planning to sell its stake in Freedom Group, maker of the Bushmaster rifle, following the school shootings in Newtown, Conn.

The private equity firm said that the shootings were a watershed event in the national debate on gun control. While it said that it is not its role to take positions or attempt to shape or influence the gun control debate, Cerberus said it can take action by selling its stake in Freedom Group.

"We believe that this decision allows us to meet our obligations to the investors whose interests we are entrusted to protect without being drawn into the national debate that is more properly pursued by those with the formal charter and public responsibility to do so," the company said in a statement.

On Friday, 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S history. The gunman, Adam Lanza, used a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle during the shootings.

Whatever company or individual buys the assets --- with the alphabet soup of federal regulators in the current administration needing to approve the sale --- you better believe there will be a demand in any approval parameters for a, 'NO sales to the civilian market' operational policy.

On the flip side, this very well may end up being a 'buy it to shut it all down' deal.

That's called 'change'.

Don't doubt me on any of it.

A nudge of epic ICR2P Totalitarian proportions is on the way.

I still don't know that Soros had anything to do with the Freedom Group.  I think they are just caving like everyone else*.  And besides, based on the crowd at the gun shop yesterday, it's probably a hell of a time to put a bunch of gun companies up for sale.  They have no doubt hit their peak value and have gotten every dime they can out of them.

*Dicks Sporting Goods says they are stopping "assault rifle" sales.  WalMart has removed Bushmasters from their site and online ads.   They are no doubt still watching the barometer before deciding on in-store sales.

And...The Freedom Group has screwed up every gun company they've bought, so if we get through this, their ditching gun companies might be for the best.
USFA buying Marlin?  Springfield buying Remington?  Dare I say...Ronnie Barret buying...any of them?  I guess I can think of worst things coming from this.

At every national public news event there is money to be made.  It only makes since to put up the company for sale right now while raking in the big bucks then sell it just after the panic.  Even Furd had a run on white Broncos after the O. J. chase...

I left one out on the list of cavings.  One of the stupid gun TV shows has been canceled by Discover.  "American Guns" I think.  I heard it was a hit (I wouldn't know) but was canceled due to "concerns".

Jump you rats.  Didn't want you anyway.

I only suffered one single episode.  Cancellation is of no significant loss...

I heard earlier that Cheaper Than Dirt has pulled guns from their website.  I will reserve further comment now, because it's possible they did it because they were overwhelmed.  Bud's Gun Shop crashed, which is probably to be expected.

However, I'm hearing Academy Sports in Houston has yanked all the black rifles from their shelves.
We don't have Academy Sports around here.

I've got no problem with Taurus buying Freedom Group.

Actually I meant Parker shotguns, but what the heck, I'll throw a bid in on P-H too.
Is Parker-Hale still in business?  They aren't sold (new) here anymore, so I thought they must have folded due to England's gun laws.  They never were very common here, so weren't exactly missed right away.

I have wanted a Parker double shotgun ever since I learned of them.  The cheapest one I have ever located cost about 50% more than what I can justify for a vanity purchase.

An ex-coworker lost 1 the winter he came home wounded from Korea. Got caught in a gale while duck hunting with a friend. With his mortar shell knee injury it was grab the boat or drop the gun. He was unable to swim yet. They worked the area for a year with clam rakes and never found it. Very sad. He bought it used with money made as a teen working a local duck farm.
