Made a Bluetooth speaker for my wife for Mother's Day.
« on: June 15, 2017, 09:19:16 AM »

For Mother's Day this year I made a Bluetooth Speaker for my wife, Aimee.  I followed a Youtube video by Great Scott.  He also has an Instructables Page here.

I bought the parts from ebay listed on the Youtube description and when they arrived I got to work.

I designed an Autocad layout for the box design and used my Laser Cutter to cut out the parts.

I used a pair of dead computer speakers I had laying around.  I used both the fabric and the internal speaker and tossed the case.

I used a breadboard to test the circuits and verify function and then hot glued the components into the box I had made. It is a VERY tight fit and not pretty inside.  My speaker is MUCH smaller than his.  We use the speaker every day for at least 20 minutes a day and it has not needed a charge in the last 40 days.  The batteries have so much depth, I know I could have used only one for the project.  It charges with a standard USB phone charger and have a red light while charging and a blue light when done.  You can use the speaker while it is charging.  The speaker will easily change from my phone to her phone.  There is not as much base to the sound as I would like to have and I know the speaker really needs more empty air volume for a better sound.  I also should have separated the to speakers from each other for better sound quality, but in the end it is perfect for her needs and she is TOTALLY happy and proud of the speaker.

I have finally taken the time to make my own bluetooth speaker.

The first one, (seen above) is a very simple version.  This time, I raised the flaps and kicked on the afterburner.

Features of hers,
1. Charging indicator Led (Red)
2. Charge complete Led (Blue)
Power switch
Auto pairs with device, controls are from the device, ie on the phone or tablet.

Features of Mine
1. Charging indicator Led, (Pulsing Red and Green)
2. Charge complete Led, (Pulsing Blue and White)
Main Power Switch
Amplifier Power Switch
Bluetooth Board Power Switch
5v dc Phone Charger Out USB-A with Power Switch
Mp3 flash drive IN port
Headphone jack that will kill the speakers and transfer sound to the headphones only.
Volume control knob.
Will play Mp3 with out connecting bluetooth from a flash drive with controls.
Mode button, (chooses Mp3 or bluetooth or sd card function)
Play, Plays the mp3 file or will pause and unpause the application on the smart phone or tablet.
Next, will go to the next mp3 or advance the application on the phone or tablet to the next track.
Back, same as next but backwards! Go figure.
Eq, a sound equalizer, works only with mp3 files on the flash drive or sd card. Does nothing when connected to app on phone or tablet.
Estimated play time on a single charge is over 30 hours.
Will charge phone, play mp3s and charge itself at the same time.

The push button controls on the front are .22lr cases.
The 4 toggle switches are covered in .22lr cases.
The Volume knob is a 9mm case.
3 .410 shotgun shells are for decoration after my internal volume stopped me from adding the cam with motor to make the 3 shells articulate up and down.  Next time it will have this, BECAUSE I CAN!

But it's not legal in Califailure.  No bullet button.

Nor in New York, there's more than severn rounds on it (that they're only casings matter not).
