The shooter has been identified as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, of Illinois.

Bernie Sanders supporter.  Despises President Trump.

Jim has the info at Gateway.  A bunch of the man's tweets and Facebook offerings - click here.

More as officially available.

Quote

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and multiple congressional aides were shot by a gunman with a rifle who opened fire at a GOP baseball practice in Virginia Wednesday morning

The gunman was shot by U.S. Capital Police, apprehended and taken to the hospital.  Rep. Mo Brooks reportedly used a belt as a tourniquet to stop Scalise's bleeding.  Five people were "transported medically" from the scene.

Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., told Fox News he left just before the shooting.  As he walked to his car, a man asked DeSantis if it was Republicans or Democrats practicing.  About three minutes later, the shooting began, DeSantis said.

Aside from Scalise, DeSantis and Brooks, Reps. Brad Wenstrup and Chuck Fleischmann, and Sens. Rand Paul and Jeff Flake were among the people at Simpson Field for practice.  Brooks said the gunman was using the dugout as cover and estimated the assailant got off 50-100 shots during the attack on the 15-25 people gathered at the field.  "The shooter was shot behind home plate as he was circling around to the first base dugout where there were a number of us congressmen and other folks", Rep. Mo Brooks told FMTALK1065.

Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, told Fox News he "felt like I was in Iraq, but without my weapon."

Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown:  “We were there within three minutes.  Two of our officers engaged in gunfire and returned fire.”

The Congressional Baseball Game is scheduled for June 15 at Nationals Park.  The game, which has been a tradition since 1909, pits Senate and House members of each party who sport the uniform of their home state.  The practice location is about 10 miles from Washington, D.C.

Scalise endorsed President Trump during last year’s presidential campaign, and has been a vocal backer of Trump’s travel ban.  As leader of the powerful study group, he has also spearheaded the effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

Got off 50 to 100 shots..... With a rifle.   From fairly close range.  Getting closer.

Armed security on site.  At close range.  But..... "we were there within three minutes".

.....50 to 100 shots.

".....felt like I was in Iraq, but without my weapon."

WHAT IN THE ABSOLUTE KCUF IS THIS BOOLE SHEET !?!

Updates added above as official.

Breaking.....

The shooter is a trans-gender black asian latino caucasian muslim Bernie Clinton supporter dressed in a rainbow flag "Coexist !" burqa.

Sorry.  I had to.  Can't help myself.

He first asked Rep Ron DeSantis if the congressmen were Dem or GOP before getting the rifle.  DeSantis thought that was very odd.
Lots of comments like "Good thing the Capitol Police were there".    How about, too bad Rep De Santis didn't act on that odd feeling, keep an eye on the guy, then as he took the rifle out, pull his own concealed gun...
Oh.  Yeah.

The hoplophobes have started.  If only it weren't for all those guns.   Sounds to me like they were short a few good guns.
How else does a guy, in the midst of that many people, retrieve a rifle from his car, return to the field with it, and get 50 (which probably means 20)  shots off?   If people had the right, and the initiative, to take care of themselves, he'd never have left the parking lot.

Commentary from John Farnham, Defense Training International
http://defense-training.com/2016/we-shoot-back/

Summary section:

Points everyone needs to take away from this:
1) Decisive and IMMEDIATE return fire doubtless prevented a much larger massacre.
2) Who go armed routinely, and have IMMEDIATE access to guns, are the only ones who can possibly influence these kinds of terrorist incidents in any meaningful way.
3) Competent training is the only way through which one can adequately prepare to deliver precise, war-winning fire on pernicious threats, at the moment it is required. Simply “giving guns” to the incompetent accomplished nothing!
4) “Armed and well trained,” is the solution to terrorist attacks, whether you’re protecting a dignitary, your family, or just yourself.
5) “Helplessly waiting to be rescued” holds out scant hope!

But that's preaching to the choir here, right?
Right?

Thanks to Bill - LongKnife21 - for the heads-up.

Nebraska Democrat - Black Caucus Chairwoman - Thinks It's Hysterically Funny And A Good Thing That Congressman Scalise And Others Were Shot.

Lincoln, Nebraska - The Omaha World-Herald - 17 June 2017  ---  A Nebraska Democratic Party official has refused calls to resign her volunteer position after calling reactions to this week’s shooting of a high-ranking Republican member of Congress “so funny” on social media.

Chelsey Gentry-Tipton of Omaha said in statement that she will not resign as chairwoman of the party’s Black Caucus, saying her post was taken out of context by party officials.

Watching the congressman crying on live tv abt the trauma they experienced.  Y is this so funny tho ?

  ---  and  ---

The very people that push pro NRA legislation in efforts to pad their pockets with complete disregard for human life.  Yeah, having a hard time feeling bad for them.

The typical community organizer is beyond convinced she's got 110% pure empowerment over everyone and everything because..... #BlackLiesMatter..... and then went on to blast her own party - you know, typical Democrats - along with refusing to resign her position and also offered the following:

Quote

“I believe that there are people in the party that benefit from taking my post out of context.  I don’t believe that you or anyone else is the arbiter of my words, voice or compassion for the black community.”

What, pray tell, Ms. Gentry-Tipton, is being taken out of context ?   Those are your words above.  You're laughing at attempted mass-murder, making it racial and you think it's a good thing across the board.

#1. I want to learn how to conceal carry a rifle that can fire 50-100 rounds (in less than 3 minutes) in broad daylight without anyone noticing!
#2. 50-100 rounds fired at about 25 targets, 3 hits, with a rifle at what I consider point blank range (for a rifle). Either the rifle was never sighted in or this person had never fired a rifle (or both). Buck fever?
#3. No mention of how many times the shooter was hit by LEOs after he began his attack. How many of the rounds fired during the attack were from the shooter and how many from LEOs? History has shown that most LEOs can't shoot well in live fire situations. Hell, most military can't either. Don't believe me, look up # of rounds fired to kill or wound enemy in every conflict since WWII. You can go to the range every day, but until you try to fire accurately when receiving fire aimed at you, you don't have a clue.

Only in the Demon Cratic world I guess, does a volunteer have to "resign." If she's unpaid all they need is a broom to remove her. But that would make my IQ about 100 points over whoever she supposedly volunteers for.

I guarantee Soot, if Obama was POTUS he wouldn't have given up his "birthday" to visit an attempted assassinated Congressman. And Trump would have done it for either side or even for Bernie Sanders. I guarantee.

Apparently, I missed something regarding that typical community organizer, Chelsey Gentry-Tipton, chairwoman of the Nebraska Democrat Congressional Black Caucus.  I went to the source article and simply forgot to look through the Moonbattery.com posting (linked below).

This is from Bill:

Quote

Kenny,

I'm glad you found something you liked, but you missed my point and the last part from Moonbattery.

Guns make people safer.

The Chart on gun ownership vs homicides shows that, clearly.  Silly Twit Marxist Revolutionaries like Chelsey Gentry-Tipton of Omaha are irrelevant in the long run.  Actually helpful in my somewhat "bloodthirsty" opinion, because they encourage incompetent over-propagandized Leftist idiots to "hit the streets", but actually are only "committing suicide by cop".

Also those crimes encourage competent Citizens to buy more and better guns, train more, and harden their hearts to the necessity of "neutralizing the threat" in the most permanent and efficient manner when necessary, and the opportunity presents itself.

The Libtards , like the Islamofascists, have declared WAR on Constitutional Conservative Judaeo-Christian America, and Civilization in general.  Realize it, accept it, then decide what appropriate action you as a Citizen should take to defend yourself, family, property, community, & Nation.  Not that complicated, but somewhat "discombobulating" to those who have not received The Blessings of Combat or at least reasonable training to deal with such.  But everyone must "deal with it' or simply be an "ostrich".

Note that the homicide rate was cut almost in half by gun ownership going up by about 1/2 of 1% on a per capita basis,  That was my major point.

Also please consider the damage inflicted by such idiots as Hodgekinson could be minimized if more Concealed Carry folk had Short Barreled Rifles (SBR) with suppressors.  An AR-15 in .300 ACC Blackout with a 10" barrel loaded with fragmenting "Safety Bullets" to prevent ricochets and 'over-penetration' is ideal and capable of 1 to 2 minute-of-angle accuracy.*  (Unlike the ChiCom SKS's 'minute-of-tuna fish can' accuracy.)

A reasonable "attenuator/suppressor/muzzle device" can be added, not much longer than the normal AR "birdcage" that can reduce the report to less than most pistols and hide the flash. *Minute of angle is 1" per 100yds.

Such Personal Defense Weapons could be carried in gym bag or similar size case. Built on an AR-18 upper with a side folding stock could fit in a slightly oversized attache case. (No long recoil spring tube.)

The current NFA tax of $200 for the SBR Tax is ridiculous - especially for CC licensees.  Should be about $20.  Suppressors aren't really "silencers" and taxing them at $200 is the result of early 1930' Hollyweird fantasies.  You can't really "silence" a supersonic bullet if fired parallel to the ground or any solid surface. Any "silencer" without a "wipe" is usually just a muffler.  Set some reasonable standards with a reasonable tax like $20 for the low-tech ones and maybe up to $50 for "real silencers".

The "Hearing Protection Act" is trying to address this.  I personally have no problem with a reasonable tax and registration of good ones as long as they "de-criminalize" the possession of home-made low tech "muffler" ones.

Also the part of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 that added section (o) to  18 U.S.C. § 922  that bans the sale to the public of machine-guns manufactured after 1986 needs to be repealed.  The $200 tax from each sale should be applied to the Federal Deficit.  It was terrible law.  The use of machine-guns by licensed owners in crimes has always been minuscule.  I think in 1986 there were two known cases, and one was a police officer.

I would pay the $200 tax for a good select-fire AR lower, and it shouldn't cost more than about $30 more than a semi-auto.  Maybe $50 if it had semi - 3 shot burst - full auto.  With today's computerized police records and especially for people already cleared for concealed carry, the necessary BATF "investigation" should take about 3 minutes.

Only thing I'll offer to that:

Here's my version of the tax/fee/fee/tax stamp or whatever the hell it is today:   $ 0.00   Supressors are an accessory.  Period.   Just like a sling for a rifle, holster for a handgun, light/laser, scope, etc.

I agree in theory.

The anti-gunners have ben screwing up "The Theory" for over 80 years, and it is going to take some doing to get it back.  In the mean time, common sense demands that we try to stop the further loss of freedom and natural rights and turn it around, even if it has to be done incrementally.

Hodgekinson has very well demonstrated an excellent case against "Constitutional Carry".  As much as I like the theory, the current IRRESPONSIBILITY in "our" Lib/Prog "political culture" makes concealed carry for untrained & irresponsible people with gross ignorance of the law and a very twisted political view totally impractical.  I don't like it, or saying it, but it is true.

Do you want the brain-washed crazies like The New Black Panther Party, 'By Any Means Necessary', or 'Antifa' to be allowed LEGAL concealed carry without any training, registration, or demonstration of ability ?   We must not become victims of our own theories, like the Left is victimized and driven to insanity by theirs.  Ours are MUCH BETTER, but designed for a more civilized and sane society than what we have now, especially in the Lib/Prog controlled cities and academia.

Therefore, I consider a reduced tax and registration of superior weapon a small price to pay to A) Appease the frightened Liberals; B) Get the superior weaponry into competent, sane peoples' hands; C) Somewhat limit the availability to the incompetent and less-than-sane; and D) Provide for legal penalties for those that violate the laws and especially use these superior weapons to commit real crimes.

We must recognize that not all "residents" are responsible constitutional citizens and our current 'public education system' does not encourage "good citizenship", but some perverted Marxist global Socialist dependency that is usually criminal in application.

Conceded.  I don't like it one bit - rights are rights - but that's how we got where we are now - the Cass Sunstein and Saul Alinsky "nudge" - incrementalism.  And it started long before 'good old Saul' was in the picture.

First, the $200 tax value was chosen because in 1934 because it was too high for most Americans.  Only the rich would be able to do this.  In fact if you were to adjust for inflation you get this.

The U.S. dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 3.56% per year between 1934 and 2017. $200 in the year 1934 is worth $3,649.61 in 2017.

So if we adjust for inflation the tax should be $3600!  Yikes, any hope I would have of owning a fun toy is gone....not that I can afford on anyway, let alone feed it! So the only reason  it is not a burden and "Almost acceptable" is inflation has remove the sting from the punitive tax and at the same time made our dollar worthless!

The National Firearms Act needs to be FULLY repealed. Any chipping away without loosing rights should be taken.

Second,
Here in Maine they passed Constitutional Carry.  Meaning that anyone over 21 can carry a concealed hand gun without a permit.  No one talks about what we lost.  Before this passed, if you took a class in concealed carry and had no criminal record, you simply paid your $25 fee and they HAD to give you a permit....AT 18 years old.  We screamed at loosing this so they threw a partial bone back, If you are in the Military and take the class, you can get a permit at 18, all others have to wait until they are 21.

Moving toward the NFA removal needs to be done carefully.  This is just arm chair quarterbacking after all.

And now congressmen are wanting a bill to allow them to carry within D.C.    As sad, pathetic, and evil as the crime was, it seems it woke a few up to the reality of the situation.  They've discovered there are dangers out there and places they can't do anything about it.

Welcome to everyday life for the rest of us.

Fix it for everyone or don't do anything.
