Out west we have a popular chain of truck stop service stations, 'Flying J' or 'Fly'n J'.  Back when they were in their early growth they had just begun to deliver their fuel with their own fleet but they still had to buy the fuel from other refineries.  One day a refinery in Bakersfield, CA is shut down for good.  I think it may have been a Chevron refinery.  But they say it is in such poor condition it can no longer be repaired and so it must be torn down and rebuilt.  They go on that rebuilding is not economically practical to do and so they will just shut it down instead.  Of course this news makes fuel prices spike aaa-gain.  Next thing you know is Flying J buys the refinery!  Simultaneous with this they also go through another channel to lease the oil field practically next door for a billion years too!!!  Flying J has absolutely no experience in either of these fields and nobody expects them to figure it out.  All the big oil companies just stand back to watch Flying J go down in flames.  Next thing you know is Flying J puts out a call to everyone with experience in the petroleum industry, and it looked like this, 'If you have ever been fired, threatened to be fired, or are not comfortable with how your employer runs the company - then we want you!'  Good qualified workers showed up in droves to pick up right where the old crew left off and Flying J has never looked back since.  The company has had explosive growth and is practically 100% independent of anyone - if there is any facet of their business that relies on an outsider then Flying J develops a way to bring it into their own control.  The company can not be threatened or extorted upon.  I believe their business practices are a major factor in hold down the price of fuel in the west.

And the founder's son, Pilot-FlyingJ current C.E.O. James Haslam III, is also owner of the Cleveland Browns.

Gent is worth an estimated $4 Billion.

His brother Bill is the current Governor of Tennessee.

Malaria in Venezuela – ignored by government – now threatens neighboring countries.

Caracas, Venezuela - Fox News - 15 August 2017  ---  For Venezuela’s deeply anti-American socialist regime, it would have seemed a point of pride that malaria was well control for decades.  After all, the South American nation was certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as having eradicated the mosquito-borne disease in 1961, nine years ahead of the United States.

But, in fact, under the watch of socialist presidents Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro, and aided by the economic crisis that has overwhelmed the nation, malaria cases have skyrocketed almost as quickly as the inflation rate in the last few years.  And the epidemic – made more serious by medicine shortages and the government’s refusal to acknowledge a problem – is threatening to spread into neighboring Brazil and Colombia.

Long article.  Worth the read.

The Miami Herald - a bastion of far-left agenda-nudging and true hater of all things individual-rights-driven - has published an article.

Quote

Powerful Venezuelan lawmaker may have issued death order against Rubio.

Miami, Florida - The Miami Herald, article written by Patricia Mazzei - 13 August 2017  ---  One of Venezuela’s most powerful leaders may have put out an order to kill Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a fervent critic of the South American country’s government, according to intelligence obtained by the U.S. last month.

Though federal authorities couldn’t be sure at the time if the uncorroborated threat was real, they took it seriously enough that Rubio has been guarded by a security detail for several weeks in both Washington and Miami.  Believed to be behind the order: Diosdado Cabello, the influential former military chief and lawmaker from the ruling socialist party who has publicly feuded with Rubio.

At a July 19 Senate hearing, the same day he was first spotted with more security, Rubio repeated his line that Cabello — who has long been suspected by U.S. authorities of drug trafficking — is “the Pablo Escobar of Venezuela.”  A week ago on Twitter, Cabello dubbed the senator “Narco Rubio.”

Another long article - and if you can stand the liberal/leftist/typical Democrat snideness and shot-taking - worth the read as well.

If the country wasn't already one of the most corrupt on the planet, one might think something's slightly amiss since Mr. Maduro and his merry band of Totalitarians (and peace-loving peace lovers) took over.

Two items.

Quote

Venezuelans who express "hate or intolerance" will be jailed for up to 25 years under a bill pending in the country's newly-formed constituent assembly.

Reuters - 16 August 2017  ---  The assembly on Wednesday empanelled a "Truth Commission" headed by Maduro loyalist and former Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez, to prosecute those responsible for anti-government protests.

Define "hate or intolerance".

That's easy.   Any dissent whatsoever from the Maduro government on any matter.

Nothing resembling a fair trial, bare-bones - if any - representation by counsel, etc.  Up to 25 years.  Done.

Quote

Venezuelan government ties extortion to dissident ex-prosecutor.

Caracas, Venezuela - The Associated Press -  16 August 2017  ---  Leaders of Venezuela's ruling socialist party are alleging that a $6 million extortion ring was operated by the husband and close aides of ousted chief prosecutor Luisa Ortega, who recently has become a key government critic.

Socialist leader Diosdado Cabello said Wednesday the network squeezed businessmen working in the nation's oil industry to protect them from prosecution. He gave the government loyalist appointed to replace Ortega what he said were offshore bank records showing where proceeds from the scheme were stashed.

He called for Ortega's husband German Ferrer to be stripped of his immunity from prosecution as a member of congress.  One of the prosecutors denounced by Cabello is responsible for investigating some $100 million in bribery payments to top Venezuelan officials by Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.

Get rid of all opposition by any means, even making up stuff.

Kind of like the typical peace-loving peace lovers with taqiya and kitman.

It . Can't . Happen . There ..... or here either ..... right ?

.....and U.S. Democrats are licking their chops, waiting for their next chance..... with their like-minded peons already ramping up the violence across the nation.

A Venezuelan Tanker Is Stranded Off The Louisiana Coast.

Tyler Durden for ZeroHedge with Reuters linked - 17 August 2017  ---  A tanker loaded with 1 million barrels of Venezuelan heavy crude has been stranded for over a month off the coast of Louisiana, not because it can't sail but as a result of Venezuela's imploding economy and its inability to obtain a bank letter of credit to deliver its expensive cargo.

The tanker was loaded with oil in late June at the Caribbean island of St. Eustatius where PDVSA rents storage tanks, and has been waiting for authorization to discharge since early July, according to Reuters. It is here that the delivery process was halted as crude sellers request letters of credit from customers that guarantee payment within 30 days after a cargo is delivered.

The state energy company of Venezuela, PDVSA, is almost as much Venezuelan as it is Russian and Chinese. Chinese and Russian entities currently take about 40% of all PDVSA's exports as repayment for over $60 billion in loans to Venezuela and the company in the last decade, as we reported last year and as Reuters recently updated.

The Venezuelan death spiral is gonna get a lot tighter and faster.

Am I reading that correctly?

For every $1 in oil Venezuela sells us, the Reds and Chinks take 40 cents directly from the buyer!

How does that work?  Why do we have to 'pay back' their loans?  How about we give Venezuela the dollar and the Reds and the Chinks can come take their 40 cents from Venezuela themselves?

Yes.

Correct.

It works because, nudge.  It's GW Trump's fault because global gun warming Republicans.  El Guapo & Co. tried, all three parties said no.

Been almost a month since the last update, because nothing's changed - citizens are still being imprisoned or 'disappeared' for any form of dissent, food and pharmaceuticals are only for those in the government or 'connected' and the entire world power structure (except for the enablers and supporters) continue clutching their collective worry beads blaming the wrong people, with the enablers and supporters digging their claws in deeper in order to assist evil.

Nothing's changed..... until now.

The needle has moved on the meter.

Venezuela Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars For Oil Payments

Caracas, Venezuela - Fox Business News, Dow Jones Newswire, The Wall Street Journal - 13 September 2017  ---  The government of this oil-rich but struggling country, looking for ways to circumvent U.S. sanctions, is telling oil traders that it will no longer receive or send payments in dollars.

Oil traders who export Venezuelan crude or import oil products into the country have begun converting their invoices to euros.  The state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela SA, known as PdVSA, has told its private joint venture partners to open accounts in euros and to convert existing cash holdings into Europe's main currency.

The measure is designed to bypass financial sanctions President Donald Trump's administration leveled against Venezuela's government last month for jailing political opponents and creating a super body of pro-government delegates that bypasses all institutions.

"To fight against the economic blockade there will be a basket of currencies to liberate us from the dollar", said Vice President Tarek El Aissami, who has been blacklisted by the U.S. {Ed. Note: .....and is a typical peace-loving peace lover, NOT a true Venezuelan.)  Many international banks have been increasingly wary of doing business with the Venezuelan government, forcingPdVSA to rely on banks such as Russia's Gazprombank and China CTIC Bank to process crucial oil payments.

Petro-dollars are petro-dollars no matter what the currency is.  If a simple move like refusing US Dollars will circumvent sanctions then I put forth that this is intentional by design.

"The disputes involve cargoes soiled with high levels of water, salt or metals that can cause problems....."

A bubblin' crude.  Oil, that is.  Black gold.  Texas tea.

Quote

Venezuela’s state-run oil firm, PDVSA, is increasingly delivering poor quality crude oil to major refiners in the United States, India and China, causing repeated complaints, canceled orders and demands for discounts, according to internal PDVSA documents and interviews with a dozen oil executives, workers, traders and inspectors.

Caracas, Venezuela & Houston, Texas - Reuters - 18 October 2017  ---  The disputes involve cargoes soiled with high levels of water, salt or metals that can cause problems for refineries, according to the sources and internal PDVSA trade documents seen by Reuters.

The quality issues stem from shortages of chemicals and equipment to properly treat and store the oil, resulting in shutdowns and slowdowns at PDVSA production facilities, along with hurried transporting to avoid late deliveries.

U.S. refiner Phillips 66 (PSX.N) canceled at least eight crude cargoes because of poor oil quality in the first half of the year and demanded discounts on other deliveries, according to the PDVSA documents and employees from both firms. The canceled shipments - amounting to 4.4 million barrels of oil - had a market value of nearly $200 million.

Another key buyer of Venezuelan crude - India’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RELI.NS), operator of the world’s largest refinery - has repeatedly complained about oil quality, a PDVSA employee told Reuters. State-run firm China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) also complained earlier this year about excessive water levels in oil cargoes.

There's been a whole lot going on in Venezuela nudging the nation further into a totalitarian dictatorship, but like the frog-in-a-kettle scenario, nothing's been significant enough to post.

Until now.

And on the surface, it's one of those "heh" things.  But if you think about it for a few seconds, there's something underlying that should scare the bejeezuss outta ya.

Quote

North Korea Offers Venezuela Financial Advice At National Bank Meeting

Breitbart News - 4 December 2017  ---  North Korea’s ambassador to Venezuela, Ri Sung Gil, offered the fellow leftist nation financial advice at a discussion hosted by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) last week.  On Monday, North Korean state media praised Venezuela for showcasing works complimentary of the tyrannical Kim family at a recent book fair.

According to BCV’s official site, Ri told the bank’s officials “that the government of the United States has expansionist interests in order to acquire the riches of strategic nations like Venezuela and North Korea, which have chosen a socialist economic and social model.”

The site quotes Ri as saying, “socialism always has its enemies because it does not defend the interests of the rich and influential, who are the minority in the world.  Imperialism always wants to limit economic and military growth in progressive nations.”

The economy of North Korea is almost entirely subsidized by China, despite the Kim regime’s adoption of a philosophy it calls juche, or “self-reliance.”

Venezuela’s economy, meanwhile, is in freefall largely due to the damage the socialist system has done to the national currency, the bolívar.  The economic crisis is exacerbated by years of Venezuela buying the influence of neighbors like Cuba with free oil that could have netted it significant profits.  Venezuela boasts the world’s largest oil reserves, yet the value of the nation’s standard minimum wage has fallen to under $2 per month.

That underlying thing..... Who's supplying the Norks with what they need to build nukes, missiles, launch systems, sending over scientists and trained personnel, etc. ?

Ya dang well know the Norks ain't near that kinda tech-savvy, so who's helpin' ?

China (well, duh !) ?    Russia ?    Germany (specifically the Siemens Co.) ?    Iran (who's helping them too) ?

I'm bettin' stuff's comin' in from all of 'em.

Bestest comment at the Breitbart link is from "GoFlogYourself":

"This is like Bill Clinton offering advice on sexual restraint to Harvey Weinstein."

Heh.   :p
